Hello, hello my wonderful readers! It’s officially MAY and I have high hopes for this month 🙂 When it starts out with an interview with USA Today bestselling author Catherine Banks, I think that’s a pretty good sign!
ELLE: Who’s your favorite Fantasy/PNR/Dystopian, etc. heroine? Why do you love her so much?
CATHERINE: Kate Daniels. She’s and fierce bad ass, but she does have a softer side and is extremely loyal.
ELLE: What does your typical writing day/schedule look like?
C: During the week I have a full-time day job. I write during my breaks and lunch and then when I get home I write more. On Saturday I do chores, then write. On Sunday we do something together as a family, then I write more.
ELLE: If you could have ONE magical power… what would you choose, and why?
C: Flying, so I could avoid traffic!
ELLE: What is your strangest habit? (Doesn’t have to be writing related)
(she must not have any lol)
ELLE: How many words-per-book (and words-per-day) do you aim to write? How long does it usually take you to complete a novel of that length?
C: I like my books to be at least 60,000 words, unless I’m writing a novella, which I try to write at 30,000 words. My goal is to write 2,000 words a day. It usually takes me a month or a little over a month to write a complete novel.
ELLE: What’s your favorite book-to-movie adaptation?
C: The Hobbit/Lord of the Rings. They did such a great job, yes they missed some stuff, but I feel it is the most true to the book of any book-to-movie yet.
ELLE: What’s the most effective marketing strategy you’ve tried? And how did you go about implementing it?
C: Having a newsletter and setting up newsletter swaps. I joined newsletter swap groups on facebook and also messaged fellow authors about newsletter swaps. I can’t for certain say my sales come from them, but I know I gain additional readers from them, people who otherwise may not have seen my books.
ELLE: You may choose 3 fictional characters to be on your team in the zombie apocalypse…
Who are they?
C: From my books: Marin (Little Death Bringer Series), Faxon (Pirate Princess Series), and Tora (Dragon Kissed Trilogy).
From popular fiction: Deadpool, Wolverine, and Dean Winchester. Okay, that last one may be purely selfish reasons.
ELLE: What’s the best writing tip you’ve received, or would give to a fellow author?
C: If you’re stuck in a place in your book, think of the most unlikely thing to happen to your characters and write it.
ELLE: In my series, The Essential Elements, the characters have the ability to control 1 of the 4 Classical Elements (Earth, Fire, Water, and Wind).
If you could control ONE… which would you choose, and why?
C: I’ve always wanted to control fire, but I think I would control wind. If I controlled wind, I could fly wherever I wanted.
ELLE: Please tell us a bit about your latest release!
C: My latest release is ROYALLY EXPOSED, which is an adult reverse harem fantasy. This is the second book in the Her Royal Harem Series, which features Jolie, a video-gamer who ends up stumbling into the paths of four princes who change her life dramatically.
One shady deal could kill them all.
A mysterious illness plagues shapeshifters at the Summit, and if Jolie can’t find out what’s causing it, she may lose her best friend and one of her former lovers.
But when a note appears demanding Jolie in exchange for the antidote, Jolie must choose between her friends…and herself.
YAY! thank you so much, Catherine!

Until next month! xoxo
